The Port Coquitlam Heritage
and Cultural Society

Port Coquitlam, BC
"The Mission of the Society is to preserve, honour and promote the history and culture of Port Coquitlam, B.C."
Established in 1988 and officially known as the Port Coquitlam Heritage and Cultural Society, PoCo Heritage preserves Port Coquitlam's history and culture for future generations.
We are a registered BC not for profit society that is heavily volunteer supported. We are thankful to The City of Port Coquitlam for providing our facility, indirect staff and other support. PoCo Heritage's contribution to our community can be broken down into two main areas.
Our members coordinate displays at Heritage at Leigh Square (Museum and Archives) and Port Coquitlam City Hall. These displays feature historical photographs and art, interpretive and multimedia displays, First Nations artifacts, tools, collectables, maps and antiques. We also co-ordinate heritage themed programs for both adults and children and have monthly Heritage Evenings, typically on the 4th Thursday of every month (except July, August and December).
We also catalogue historical photographs, newspaper and documents, both in print and digitally. The Society is building a collection of modern-day heritage related photographs and videos. We are also actively involved in initiatives to identify, recognize and preserve historically significant structures. This has recently starting to show progress with the creation of the offical Heritage Conservation Stategy and the initial steps towards building a Heritage Register for the City of Port Coquitlam.
In 2009 we shortened our public name to "PoCo Heritage" and changed our logo to reflect this new "brand". The new brand is simplified and modernized, while still reflecting our past. Look closely and you can find two important elements of our past "rivers and rails". In 2013 we introduced the logo for "Heritage at Leigh Square", our recently expanded heritage facility in Leigh Square. This new logo pays tribute to the 100th birthday of our city on March 7, 2013 as well as to the history of the "Outlet" building in Leigh Square as a former post office.
As of March 7, 2013, Heritage at Leigh Square is now our primary combined location for museum displays, community archives, programs and events.
PoCo Heritage is always looking for new members, volunteers, community partners, etc so be sure to drop by, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or call.
All Board positions are voluntary. Elections are held annually at our Annual General Meeting (AGM) in April, however most terms are two years in length so not all positions are up for election every year. Any member can put their name forward for election for any open position.
Museum Co-ordinator - Kelly Brown. You can usually find Kelly at the museum Tuesdays to Saturdays.
As a registered non-profit society in partnership with the City of Port Coquitlam we are required to publish detailed annual reports. Here you will find information about our events and programming, visitor and website stats as well as financial information about our society. If you have questions regarding this report please contact any member of our Board of Directors.
