Rowland Lacrosse Box

Alternate tags:

Rowland Park

buildings and structures

In 1935, Douglas Rowland was trying to popularise the sport of lacrosse in Port Coquitlam, and his efforts included orgazining the first Port Coquitlam Lacrosse Association and building Port Coquitlam's first lacrosse box. In late 1945, the box was built in the yard of the local Junction School. This box has been the home venue for local lacrosse teams ever since, and after upgrading the facility in 1956, the city of Port Coquitlam named it after Doug Rowland to honour his contributions to the sport in Port Coquitlam. Today, the box is one of Port Coquitlam's 3 official heritage sites.
