Day in the Life of PoCo Photo Contest - Winners Announced
The results are in and the winners have been announced. Congratulations to Andy Cassidy, James Putnam and Michael Wright. Click here to see the winning entries. There was a council presentation on September 19, 2011. Click here to see pictures of the presentation by PoCo Heritage President Pippa Van Velzen on our Facebook Page. The winners will receive a membership to the Port Coquitlam Heritage and Cultural Society, City memorabilia and the Ist place winner will be in the calendar for 2012 and also all three photos will be in the Tri City News. We had 46 entries. Many thanks to our three judges - Richard Del Monte, Councillor Sherry Carroll and Val Bordian - President of Art Focus, who had a tough time chosing the winners.We are also running a Peoples Choice which we will put up on the web site later on.

Making a Digital Museum
Tri-City News: The Port Coquitlam Heritage and Cultural Society has long sought a venue to display its collection of historical artifacts, photographs and documents. But while the organization waits for a physical building to show off its exhibits, work is currently being done on a digital museum, which will serve the public in the meantime. PoCo Heritage hopeful for Digital Archiving grant
From Brian Hubbard: Our application for a City Community Cultural Development Investment grant has resulted in a Community Cultural Development Advisory Committee recommendation to the Healthy Community Committee that PCHCS be awarded $2,500. The grant will offset purchase of equipment and materials to digitize and catalog books, maps, periodicals, newspapers and artifacts. It will permit faster searching, reduce handling and allow public web access in the future. Total cost for Phase 1 is estimated at over $8,000 most of which will be donated by volunteers in the form of their time.

Day in the Life of PoCo Photo Contest
What's a day in the life of Port Coquitlam? Local shutterbugs are being asked to interpret this theme for a photo contest running until Aug. 26.

Photographers of all ages can share their vision of Port Coquitlam, as seen through the lens of their camera, through the A Day in the Life of PoCo Photo Contest presented by the City of Port Coquitlam and the Port Coquitlam Heritage and Cultural Society.

Prizes for the top three photos selected by the Heritage and Cultural Society will include a society membership, City memorabilia, publication in the newspaper and recognition at a City Council meeting in September.

All submitted photos will be displayed in the Archives in the Leigh Square Community Arts Village from Sept. 1 to Oct. 31 as part of a heritage photography display. Submitted photos may also be featured on the City website at www.portcoquitlam.ca and the PoCo Heritage website. Additional details and Contest Rules Here.

"Tour de PoCo" a hit for first year!
On Sunday, June 12, 2011, we hosted the first annual "Tour de PoCo" a fun and informative, leisurely bicycle tour of Port Coquitlam. We had a group of 40 enthusiastic riders who, from all accounts, thoroughly enjoyed the event. To see pictures and video of the event please visit our Facebook page. A Taste of PoCo Spirit III - A sellout!
Thanks to everyone that joined us for our latest Wine Tasting Event. It was a sellout!! A great time was had by all in attendance. Special thanks to Earls Port Coquitlam for providing the food and wine pairings as well as an excellent prize which was auctioned off. Thanks also to the Port Coquitlam Spirit of BC committee who allowed this event to be part of Spirit Weerk once again. Giggle Dam Haunted? Could well be...
Kati Ackermann from Vancouver Spooks Investigators graciously joined us for our October Meeting. In addition to introducing those in attendance to their work, she told us the results of their investigation at The Giggle Dam in downtown PoCo. The results were interesting to say the least.
